Hi everybody

I have to fill in the tax return next year. As far as I know, if I use public transport for commuting, I can deduct the corresponding costs. My problem is that I literally have only 2 receipts for 2 months. However, I commuted the entire year. Does that mean I can deduct the costs only for 2 months? May I still use the full deduction?

Thank you!

    Hi ViGotz ,
If these costs were not covered by your employer, I think you could claim the full deduction. Since the deductible amount is plausible, the tax office may not require evidence from you to confirm you did actually spend this amount.
In any case, I strongly recommend you to keep all receipts, evidence, documents, etc. in the future which are or might be relevant for your tax declaration.

If your employer did not cover the transport costs and the amount of costs is plausible, the tax office will probably accept them. However next time try to safe all the receipt you may need for the tax return.

      Hoi ViGotz

In some cantons you can use a tax software, in which this deduction is automatically calculated. You do not need to provide all monthly tickets.
So if you are, for example, from Basel Stadt, then you are lucky.

        Hello guys

Last year I've used my leased car for a travel from my home (Appenzell Innenhoerden) to work (in Freiburg).
Is it possible to deduct these expenses as work-related?

        Thanks in advance.

          Hi Contreras

You may try. But in your case, there is a high probability that the tax office will not accept this deduction.
At least you could use a public transport for such travel.

          Best regards,
          Santa
